Symptoms:

Macrium will not backup to a network location according to a specified schedule. The error it produces is:

Backup aborted! – None of the specified backup locations could be written to

Macrium_Error

In troubleshooting the issue, there seemed to be something wrong with the destination share. Using the IP address instead of the hostname in the UNC path didn’t seem to make any difference. Initiating an new backup by clicking Run Full Backup was successful without any errors. Even navigating to the network share and creating a file didn’t produce any errors. The destination is a Synology that is linked with Active Directory and the user I was using had full control over the share for both “sharing” and “security” permissions. Removing the “Hide Network Share” still yielded the same results.

Resolution:

I found an article in the Macrium Reflect knowledgebase that resolved the issue:

http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Network+logon+credentials

In brief, go to Other Tasks > Edit Defaults:

Edit_defaults

Click on Network then “Add” to add the network Credentials for the destination network path.

Network_logon

According to the aforementioned article “Windows contains a Network Credentials cache that enables network authentication details (User name and password) to be saved and re-used to logon automatically. However, scheduled tasks are run in Windows ‘batch mode’ and do not have access to saved credentials. Because of this you must enter network login details in the Macrium Reflect defaults to enable scheduled tasks to access and write to password protected network shares.”
